Gardening Resources

Augustine Nursery / 845 338 4936

I bought a gorgeous specimen tree at Augustine's — a weeping european beech that had an elegant, one of a kind habit. Family-owned. Large selection of medium to large trees and shrubs.

Adams Fairacre Farms / 845 336 6300

I go to Adams for natural soil amendments like the Epsoma line of products and Mexican bat guano. Also, Foxgloves gardening gloves. Wide variety of herbs and annuals reasonably priced. Some lovely fruit trees too. Bought a pear for my mother here. Good size shrubs and trees including a cool Harry Lauder's Walking Stick (Corylus avellana 'Contorta').

Large selection of organically grown flowering perennials in a lovely cutting garden setting. Several different cultivars of Echinacea like Harvest Moon and Sundown. Masses of hyssop and Shasta daisies. Pick your own.

Farmer Jones Barns

Rough cut and untreated lumber to order. Untreated lumber is especially great for organic gardens and raised beds. Get untreated hemlock for longevity.

Gallos of Woodstock

845 679 5113

Gallo's Nursery is conveniently located in Woodstock, carries a wide selection of hardy perennials, groundcovers and herbs and a nice assortment of peach, pear and apple trees and blueberry bushes. His hydrangeas and lilacs always make me swoon. Nice pots too.

Herzog's Supply Company

This Kingston hardware and supply store is my go-to place for all those essential odds and ends related to hardscaping. Contractor Department in the back is very helpful, friendly and quick.

Hudson Valley Seed Library

A very Catskill-local seed source with an online catalogue and presence at farmers markets. Locally grown organic seeds make for hardy, more successful seeds in my garden. Their Art Packs are excellent gifts for gardeners.

Jeff Collins Stone

845 688 7423

The only place I know to carry specially-dyed dark brown mulch that is so rich and dark it has a tint of aubergine. Jeff's Garden Soil is worth the extra money; he mixes in manure and mushroom dirt. It is the only soil I have used for clients with wonderful results. My source for cut bluestone. Customer service pretty excellent.

John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds

This catalogue for Connecticut-based John Scheepers company always has unusual vegetable heirloom varieties like White Wonder cucumbers, Little Orlando eggplant, Milano Black zucchini squash and Magenta Sunset Swiss chard.
